As a bold move in the internet video wars, Google of Mountain View, California, has purchased The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims.  "We value the creative consumer and wanted to break into the art and craft world.  Alex & Ricky and their amazing, creative viewers are the type of audience we want", said Jeff Bridges VP of Content.  "Whoo Hoo", texted Ricky Tims from his plane to the Bahamas.

WOW! Our community is so incredibly generous - THANK YOU -I have just processed the first group of checks and so far we have raised almost $20,000.00 for our brothers and sisters in Japan!!! AND the pledges continue to keep coming in. You might be interested to know that 4 different countries have participated so far - and the generosity has been over the top. I supposed that means tomorrow I take a fast trek over the the Red Cross headquarters in San Francisco with the first round of our TQS offerings. Remember, if you have not yet pledged (and the winning spoils are pretty cool) go here to learn more (Image from the Red and White Quilt collection NYC).

After viewing this episode, you’ll understand why quilter and teacher Ronda Beyer took the Best of Show award at the 2010 AQS Show & Contest in Knoxville with her friend, Gail Stepanek, for their spectacular quilt, Star Berries. Ronda is an expert on her longarm quilting machine, and she loves to put her own unique spin on traditional designs.

In this episode, she demonstrates ideas that you can adapt for hand quilting as well: how to create cross-hatched and double cross-hatched motifs and how to customize premade quilting stencils to fit your needs. She also shares a few of her beautiful quilts, including the aforementioned show-stopper.

Then, if you’re thinking of entering a show, Photo Man Gregory Case offers suggestions for improving the quality of those required photos.

Win an Alex Anderson Quilt & Ricky Tims La Veta Quilt Retreat to aid the Victims of the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

*All Proceeds go to the Red Cross*-International Donors Can Write A Check in Their Local Currency

In light of the tragedy that has devastated Japan, we at TQS felt moved to contribute with the work of Alex's hands and the gift of learning from Ricky. Together we can make a difference for the people of Japan who have suffered so greatly. Let's celebrate the ability to help those in need, TQS style. Show your support to the victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami by entering now to be eligible to win two great prizes for one lucky person.

Enter now to be eligible to win Bridge of Life, a quilt designed, pieced and appliqued by Alex Anderson, border by Gloria Smith and machine quilted by Paula Reid. This quilt has debuted in two books -- Sew with the Stars (P&B Textiles) and Alex Anderson's Machine and Hand Applique (C&T Publishing). This quilt will continue her journey of helping people in need.

Ricky has graciously offered one free tuition to a Ricky Tims Retreat in La Veta, CO, sometime in 2012. During this five day, ten-person retreat you will have the opportunity to study in an incredibly special environment with Ricky and foster your creative spirit.

The Quilt Show is sweetening the pot by throwing in $500.00 to help with transportation and lodging (to be reimbursed at the retreat).

As the rest of the world is - we are stunned by the events unfolding in Japan, coupled with all the natural disasters we have recently witness around the globe - it reminds us how small and fragile our world is. Our hearts go out to TQS members and families (and the people of Japan) who have been affected by this unfathomable tragedy.

BOM designer Sue Garman loves swag borders, especially when they pop up--like an afternoon surprise--in the middle of a quilt, rather than waiting to appear along the its "sunset edge." You'll love the way the ruffled edge of this elegant swag softens the overall look of our 2011 BOM quilt.

TQS is sad to report that Ami Simms lost her beloved dog, Madison this week. Madison was a model, a salesdog, a food critic, a pattern tester, a helpmate and so much more.  To learn more about Madison, click here.  As Ami says;

Madison loved to blog. I know that so many of you enjoyed his unique perspective. If you enjoyed his writing, please bark, woof, or yip in the comment section of the blog. If you would like to support his favorite charity, please consider a donation in Madison’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative.

Our hearts go out to Ami and Madison.
