Quilt artist and teacher Lola Jenkins came to quilting in a unique fashion - a quilting magazine literally fell at her feet in a hobby store! - and she began teaching just a few months later. You're in for a special treat as she visits TQS with a show and tell of her vibrant and personal quilts, many of which are "portraits" of people she knows or has been commissioned to interpret in fabric.

Lola also demonstrates how to use the various elements in a printed fabric panel to build a fantasy collage quilt, and engages in a lively Q&A session with the audience. Then Ricky shares his Caveman technique.

The nonprofit Alliance for American Quilts is holding several very cool fundraisers in New York City in August, and we've got TWO tickets to give away for the premiere event in the AAQ's Quilters Take Manhattan program.

Saturday, August 6 will be a fun-filled afternoon, featuring Marianne Fons, known for her magazine and TV show; Marianne's zany daughter, Mary Fons, from the show Quilty; and Jay McCarroll, first-season winner of the popular TV show, Project Runway, who now designs fabric for FreeSpirit Fabric. Jay will be interviewed on-stage at F.I.T. (the Fashion Institute for Technology) in New York's fabled Garment District by the always-outrageous Mark Lipinski, who truly puts the "fun" in fundraiser. This interview will become part of AAQ's oral history project, Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories," which is archived at the Folklife Center of the Library of Congress.

Tickets for this event sell for $45 each, which includes refreshments, goody bags, awesome door prizes, and a silent auction.

The Quilt Show, however, has TWO Free Tickets to see "Marianne & Jay on the Runway," and you can enter to win one by sending an email here. (One entry per person, please!) The contest ends Wednesday, July 20, and the two winners will be announced in Weekend Fun on Friday, July 22.

Since it is mid-year, you can imagine that the 2012 TQS BOM is well underway. Although it is not a Sue Garman design, it is just as knock-your-socks-off-amazing as you have come to expect from the TQS BOMs.

There will be two color versions for you to choose from. One is hot and wild, the other is geared toward quilters with more subdued color tastes.

We are not ready to let the cat out of the bag, but we are willing to give you a sneak peek and... can you guess the designer. The initials are S. V.

Join us in Episode 901 for a true "multimedia experience" as quilt artist, teacher, and pattern designer Susan Brubaker Knapp unites with the TQS gang on location at the home of Hugh and Dee Dee Eaton in Monument, CO. Susan shares some of her traditional and art pieces in a wonderful show and tell, and then - after a brief "musical interlude" (accompanied by Ricky) - she gets down to business, demonstrating her method for making consistently sized vines and her techniques for needle-turn appliqué.

She also shows how she designs and creates a quilt using an original photo and her computer. (Bonus: the demo pattern will be available on the TQS website for download.) We wrap up with a visit to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, CO, which opened its doors in 1990 as a showcase for Colorado quilts and quilting.
