Lynette portrait

Meet Lynette Anderson, the creator of our fabulous 2015 TQS Block of the Month quilt,  "My Country House." Lynette Anderson was never destined to have a normal office job.

From her rural upbringing exploring the woods of Dorset, England, to her first job spinning dog hair for doting owners, she has always looked at things a little differently, and has been just a little obsessed with the way things look and feel.

Add to that the textiles, arts and crafts skills she learned from a very early age under the instruction of her mother, Ruth, and both of her grandmothers, and it is no surprise that Lynette has been so successful. From her maternal grandmother, Lynette learned to knit,  and from her paternal grandmother she learnt embroidery, drawing and painting. Lynette and her brother were kept busy as children outdoors and in, with a wide range of craft projects.

Later she did a short course in patchwork, as a way of finding a new hobby while her four boys were small, and her interest soon grew into a thriving teaching and pattern-designing business, which she continued after migrating with her family to Australia in 1990.

Since 1995 Lynette has published nine books, with two more on the way, as well as creating countless patterns, including quilts, pillows, bags and sewing accessories.

Working with Lecien Fabrics, Lynette created ten very popular fabric collections, with names such as "Scandinavian Christmas," "Hollyhock Cottage," "Follow My Heart" and "Wildflower Wood'." Lynette now designs for RJR Fabrics.

Her sophisticated yet naïve design style is distinctive, and combines simple stitchery with applique and piecing, making it attractive to embroiderers and quilters worldwide.

From a memory or a chance encounter, Lynette first draws out her ideas, often without an end product in mind. She says that sometimes a quilt will start with an idea for just one block, and other times she will just start drawing and get an idea of what product the design is best suited as she goes along.

With inspiration for her patterns coming from her childhood adventures, evening walks with her husband, Vince, and dog, Hugo, along the beach near their current home, as well as everyday life, Lynette’s designs are as vast as her imagination and always incorporate a little touch of whimsy.

Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month journey into the land of childhood memory with a charming quilt designed especially for TQS by internationally-known Australian designer Lynette Anderson.  Lynette combines simple, unpretentious folk art style appliqué motifs with patchwork blocks for a quilt that will be a joy to make.  Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns.  We will once again be offering monthly companion teaching videos as well.  It all makes for a year of fun and learning!

The My Country House (64" x 84") program will begin with the first pattern installment on January 1, 2015.  In the meantime, to help you get ready, be sure to download the Introduction Packet, which includes everything you will need to begin working on the "My Country House" BOM quilt.  From fabric requiremens and color selections to appliqué and embroidery tutorials, we have thought of everything to make this an enjoyable and rewarding project for you to cherish.
