Do you like to support the preservation of quilt history? Do you like to buy and collect quilts? Are there any quilters on your Christmas list this year?

Once again you have a chance to buy one of the stunning contest quilts made for the nonprofit Quilt Alliance. The many styles mean there is something for every taste, and the quilts -- some by prize-winning star quilters -- are quite affordable, starting at just $60.

The 7th annual contest and auction, titled TWENTY, celebrates the Alliance's 20th anniversary, and documents the work of 93 artists from 26 states and 5 countries. The annual small quilt auction is one of the Quilt Alliance's most important fundraisers, supporting projects like Quilters' S.O.S. -Save Our Stories and Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! and enabling our participation in projects like The Quilt Index.

The first week of the Quilt Alliance's TWENTY auction begins on Monday, November 11 at 9pm Eastern. All quilts are 20" x 20", and the quilts will be offered through December 9 in four one-week auctions on eBay.

Rose Sheifer has designed dozens of quilting books in her career, and now she has combined her artistic eye with a love of vintage linens to transform a collection of treasured family table covers into beautiful quilts.

Rose shares helpful info about finding, auditioning, and preparing the vintage linens; methods for devising a compatible block and/or quilt design; and the process for combining the two. (Note: The pattern for the Dogwood Quilt seen in the sewing demo will be available to Star members on the TQS website.)

Then, Ricky shows a super landscape technique using a background fabric, fabric "slivers" and "confetti," and oversized random stippling stitches.

Join us in episode 1309 where you'll meet "quilt sculptor" and teacher Susan Else, who made the leap from "flat quilts" to one-of-a-kind, three-dimensional quilted works and has never looked back. After showing a selection of her incredible quilted sculptures, Susan demonstrates how she uses felt, fabric-wrapped floral wire, and couching to create dimensional leaves, helps Alex construct a 3-D diorama, and shares some excellent tips for adapting your cutting tools to accommodate physical limitations. In addition, Alex demos the fast-and-fun, paper-pieced Fan block that she used in her colorful quilt, Hot Flash. (Look for the pattern on the Projects page). Don't miss it!

Learn the charming story of Cotton+Steel, the industry's best kept secret and a new division of RJR Fabrics. Early this year, designer Melody Miller went to RJR with a big idea. After making a comprehensive presentation, she and the folks at RJR decided to join forces to create a new company of designers that include Melody MillerRashida Coleman-HaleAlexia AbeggKim Kight, and Sarah Watts.

As a young company, Cotton+Steel hopes to honor the traditions of creativity, resourcefulness, and innovation inherent in the sewing and quilting world. The five designers are unusually collaborative, and their first fabric collections will be shown at the Spring International Quilt Market in Pittsburgh next May. Cotton+Steel is officially launching this weekend and we're tremendously excited to introduce these five designers and their new brand.
