Following the seminar, and the hard work of packing up, a lite snack was in order for a bit of fortification.

The Ricky Tims Super Seminar in Paducah ended on Tuesday - the same day as the awards presentation. I wanted to give you all the excitement of the awards before posting this fun video which followed the seminar. Our wonderful British quilt volunteers were VERY brave as you will soon see.

Then up came the WAGS - five quilters from the Memphis area of Tennessee. Many small groups of quilters have clever names. What do you call your special group of quilting friends?

Who is this excited quilting celebrity? Why it's none other than... oh yes, see Episode 109

The exicitement is electric in Paducah. One of the best parts of being here is seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The reception following the awards presentation is one of those places where faculty, sponsors, and the AQS team gather for the first time.

Quilts from well-known quilt artists grace the home of Caryl Fallert.

Most of you know that Suzanne Marshall (Episode 203 ) was, and is, my quilting mentor and cheerleader. Caryl Bryer Fallert's quilts (design and color) have had a powerful influence me (and many of you) since I started quilting in 1991. It is such a pleasure to know Caryl. It is rare that we could meet for longer than a fast hello as we pass in the halls en route to classes, or taking a quick lunch break. Because we had planned to arrive in Paducah before the madness of the show, we were able to plan dinner - which was fantastic (at Max's) but I also got to see Caryl's new 8000 sq. ft home, studio, and retail shop. I had toured it before it was finished, but this was my first time to see it completed. For Caryl, it is a dream come true and came true after a LOT of really hard work.

Caryl has good taste when collecting quilts. In the opening segment (kitchen) there are two small quilts made by two well-known quilters who will be featured in Series Three of TQS. Can you guess the artists? Also a third person is mentioned during this clip that will ALSO be on Series Three - and no, the answer is not me.

I've heard that traveling first class is a real treat. So I've heard. As you'll soon see, WE most certainly do NOT travel first class!

The best part of coming to this show every year (every year since 1992, except for 2001) is the reunion with my favorite quilting friends. Who among you out there is heading to Paducah this week? Are you meeting friends? Coming with friends? Are you a "regular" or is this your first time? If you see us shout, "It's a New Day!"

The first day of the trip was long, uneventful, and therefore not very exciting. However, I managed to create a seven minute video to give you all the boring details.

I heard about the earthquake when I read your comments. Hope those of you in the region are all okay. We'll head out this morning, pass through St. Louis - my old stomping ground (hi, ya'll), and arrive in Paducah before supper.

Well, that's the plan anyway. What are you doing today?

La Veta gets hammered with a spring snowfall.

La Veta, CO - Thursday, April 17 @ 11:01 pm

Whew! Taping 14 TQS shows, a retreat in La Veta, one week with Rick Mahal (TQS Video Editor) and one day to pack for a long trip. Oh yeah, on top of that, we got 12 inches of snow last night. Thankfully the roads are clear now. I hope you are ready because I'm planning on taking you with me. No need to pack your bags - just log on to TQS and enjoy the ride.

First, this journey will take me to Paducah, Kentucky for the AQS show and contest. Alex and Libby will meet up with me and we will do a Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar during the three days prior to the official kick off of the AQS event. I won't return back to La Veta until the first week of May. However, I've got my trusty camera and plan to bring you all the exicitement as it unfolds!

I have a surprise treat planned for the 1800 quilters attending my concert on Friday, April 25, at the Four Rivers Center in Paducah (see photos of this spectacular venue). Any guesses about the surprise? Actually, there are three surprises that night. Do you wonder what other mysteries lie ahead? What do you hope the camera will record for you? - and no, the concert will NOT be recorded for you - concert hall rules!

Speaking of Road Trip - we just finished editing Part One of our "official" two part TQS Road Trip. I'm bursting with excitement about these Road Trip shows and can't wait for June 9th and June 23rd. There has never - never ever - been ANTYTHING like this for quilters. Fasten your seat belts, there are fun, surprises, advice, lessons, and quilting treats coming to a computer screen near you! Season Two subscribers are in for real treat.

See you around the bend. -Ricky

ADDED, April 18, 6:48am. Toady we'll be heading into Kansas on I 70 - stopping in Lawrence, KS for the night. Then, on Saturday, we're heading through Kansas City, St. Louis and down to Paducah, KY. Anyone on that route, be sure to wave. Should we stop in for a cup of coffee?

Whirlwind and frenzy - two words that tend to describe my life these days. Immediately following the taping of Series 3, the gallery was transformed into a retreat space for quilters. This group did a specatular job designing their one-of-a-kind quilts - several decided to create a Rhaspody quilt.

Here are photos of three Rhapsody quilts started last week. Makers from top to bottom are: Vickie McCarty (Kentucky), Monica Troy (Illinois), and Ann Haller (Oregon).

Interested in coming to a La Veta Quilt Retreat? All the info is on my website. Simply enter the lottery list. You never know, you might get a call for 2009 retreats. There are several retreats each year.

I guess all good things must come to an end. I hope you have enjoyed The Three Sisters. In this final video, each of them share their thoughts and offer words of wisdom.

Now, out of curiosity, would you be interested in a 15 student, four day, Master Class, with the all Three Sisters (yes, THREE teachers at once) about a year from now - in La Veta? They are considering this and would love to know if there is serious interest before making the retreat official. A ball-park only figure for four days of classes, lodging, and meals is in the $1400-1500 range. If this is something you would seriously consider, please submit a comment to that effect. Your comment is not a commitment.

Hey everybody,

Thank you so much for all the birthday greetings and well wishes! It is such a thrill to have such a large "family." I opened a package from a group of TQS friends that contained several original quilt blocks and the items you see in the photo: A bear, because I love bears; a cowboy hat, because I wear one; bells, to keep the bears away; two pairs of glasses, because I lose mine all the time; a needle threaded, because I WILL lose my glasses; a Harley Davidson pin, because I ride one; cameras, because I take LOTS of photos; and a book with heartwarming greetings. Thank you Miss Ann for getting it all together.
