I am Wendy Grande with the Quilt Show, grandedesign is my TQS name.  My job is pair everyone up appropriately.  We are working behind the scenes to use your TQS Newsletter email address with the city, state and country.   As soon as I can pair you up I will send an introduction email to you and your IMQE partner.

We are excited to have you in the 2017 International Miniature Quilt Exchange, IMQE.  Our goal is to cross borders and cultures to connect with each other through quilting.  An overview of the IMQE can be found here.  Please share this overview with your local community of quilters.

You need to be a member of this group before you can participate in this discussion.

Passionforcolor if you click on her profile picture her page comes up and there's a button in blue saying send message. Hope that helps as I haven't a clue what you mean by your 1/4" question but look forward to seeing it next year 

How do I ask a question about the 1/4" above the surface without my partner seeing it? Can I "private message" grandedesign?

Sandimaha, I was just checking the rules, and any surface embellishment shouldn't be raised more than 1/4", so watch out with your buttons .

I have spent a little time researching miniature quilts. Most of what I have seen are traditional. I am not fond of making the same block over and over so I know I don't want to make them even smaller. So how do I translate miniature to a landscape quilt or some other art type quilt? And I love to embellish. I guess I am looking for tiny buttons and beads! Any comments?

I was told (no idea by whom) that a miniature quilt should look like a big quilt when there is no reference to size in the picture. So, if you'd be brave enough to make a miniature Nine Patch, each of the block would be 2 inches square, or smaller, rather than 6 inches or larger. Ah well, I'm sure some folks here will help me do this. Right now I can't wait to find out where in the US my partner will be.

Now this is interesting. In the U.K. Festival of Quilts miniatures are 30 cm longest side which is just under 12 inches. Indeed all the minature quilts I've seen at shows or by minature specialists have been 12 inches or smaller. This Exchange group is exactly right for exchanging this sort of information I reckon. I must admit that I am very glad our exchange is 18 to 24 inches.

majack - not really. Most quilt shows would have 24" as a max size. There are certainly plenty of minis that are smaller. Eighteen to twenty-four inches is established for our guidelines.

I like the sizes for this exchange for but aren't miniature quilts usually smaller than this? Maybe we should be calling ours mini quilts!

It's exciting to see this ball finally rolling - but keep your eyes open. We are shooting for several hundred participating. My goal would be to have the biggest quilt exchange in the history of the world! - even if they ARE mini quilts.

Hi Wendy. Can't wait to get started. Thrilled yesterday when I picked up a fat quarter printed with iconic Australian place names. Immediately knew when I would be able to use it.
