Hometown of Kirara by Ayako Kawakami was part of the Appliqué, Large, section of the Houston International Quilt Festival. Kirara's grandfather was a fisherman. The quilt recreates a magnificent New Year's ceremony of hanging a "big-catch" flag on boats.
The appliqué work, details, and embroidery are exquisite. There is something to look at in every inch of this quilt.
