Where can I get a quilt quilted for $.02 a square inch? I've never paid that little--even for meandering. He did forget to include thread. Good quality thread doesn't come cheaply! Also, overhead needs to be included. I think the $25 per hour is low. I'm pretty sure 40 hours to piece a top is low if you are as fussy as I am about accuracy. I definitely appreciate the time it took him to do the math. Jon quilters see quilts at places like Costco or Walmart and think that is what all quits should cost. Bottom line is that those of us who quilt because we love it should have some idea of what our work is worth--not forgetting that the love that went into the project is truly priceless

I think the cost of fabric is underestimated. In Canada we pay $15 - $20 per metre for good fabric - you might get it cheaper on sale. But even with that, your estimate provides a good indication of the actual cost. It's not $200. If they want a quilt for $200 they can go buy it from Walmart!

Longarm quilting. That is about 7 hours at $25. They spend time with you and it is about 1 hour to set up a quilt. Consider your longarm quilter has over $10,000 (probably over $20,000) invested in their machine plus taxes, insurance, supplies and over head. Add the stress of working on your quilt worth $1359.65. Your longarm quilter works cheep. Yes, I'm a Longarmer and love working on your quilt.

I would agree that is a reasonable cost. And like callen0330 mentioned the overhead should be included. Part of the overhead too is the depreciation on your long arm and the operating costs. The machines do not come cheap and if you have to repair or replace anything $$$.
I think this is vastly underestimated as we in the UK have to pay more than $12- $13 per metre for the fabric and I put over 100 hours into making a quilt top- let alone quilting and binding it. I think most people think you can produce a quilt very quickly but a lot of thought, love and time goes into the making of one - especially if it is for a loved one. And, of course, we love what we do so are happy to spend the time!

Almost perfect! Love the $25/hr labor cost. We’re worth it! The only thing missing is overhead costs. Electricity, water, gas, etc. should be added.
