			<description><![CDATA[Lessa understates the importance of this quilt a little bit, in her quiet way! The Rajah Quilt is the only known convict ship quilt in existence. The female convicts were on their way from the UK to Van Diemens Land (Australia) to serve their 7 years' Transportation (a life sentence, really). They were taught to quilt by Elizabeth Fry, who believed that if they were given a marketable skill (sewing) they would be able to lift themselves out of their "evil" ways (some of them had been sentenced because they stole a loaf of bread to feed their families!). The Rajah quilt had been made as a thank you to Mrs. Fry and sent back to England for her. This quilt is a national treasure in Australia!
