Do not by any means put textiles next to plastic, wood or metal of any kind. The safest way to store a quilt is in unbleached, clean, cotton muslin. You can make a large bag for large quilts and smaller bags for wall hanging and table runners. You can put garments in a muslin bag also.

Shouldn't all quilts be covered with a white sheet or other fabric if the quilt is being rolled or folded? If not might the crocking happen between one part of the quilt to another?

I've used plastic bins for fabric storage for years. Sterilte is one brand that doesn't gas-off which is the problem with many plastics. I wouldn't recommend plastic bags for project storage unless you will be getting to them within the year, your sure the fabrics are dry and they are all clean, ie washed and well rinsed. Just my experience for 40 yrs of sewing and quilting.

I've had little choice but to store my quilts in vacuum sealed plastic bags due to a lot of spiders and moths in my area (I live in a rural desert region of Oregon). Mothballs are a big nope and the cedar balls are acidic. I had followed similar advice to what you've stated here for storing one of my quilts but moths got to it and turned it into lunch; thankfully it was only a table runner and I had scraps leftover and was able to patch it up. I regularly rotate between all my quilts to keep the house and bedroom looking interesting, but when not in use they're set in storage bags and occasionally taken out to be pressed, aired out, and refolded before being placed back in the vacuum sealed bags.

I am using plastic storage bins to store my quilts..should I have my husband drill some tiny holes in the bins to keep the air circulating? I also have stored my projects together in ziploc bags as I gather the fabric components. Will they be okay until I get to them?
