Drop in bobbins usually revolve counter clockwise, separate bobbin cases it revolves clockwise in almost all machines. I worked for a sewing machine dealer and took many classes at the machine's headquarters.

Jean: Still it is confusing to hear that "most" machines rotate counter clockwise. Could we have some clarification on what is meant by "most"? Which brands? I have several and the instructions manuals are put away who knows where. I have a Bernina, a Brother, and a Viking.

Yes, I've taught for Bernina since 1983 and we've always taught that the bobbin should spin clockwise. Continue to do this for your Bernina. If it spins counter-clockwi se, it won't ruin your machine, but the bobbin thread will probably be looser.

I, too, have always been told that the Bernina bobbin should spin clockwise. I just changed it to counter clockwise and will see if this makes any difference. Will use the pin method to clean out lint. I didn't know this. Thanks.
