Storage idea #5 is mine!! I designed this cutting table and my husband built it in the room as it won’t go through any doors! The backside has 2 - 36” wide kitchen cabinets with drawers. It is 4’x6’ and works great! Still love it!! Marilyn Karper

I don't have too much batting hanging around. It isn't like fabric which keeps gettting added to my stash. I have used that iron on tape (sorry, can't remember the name of the product) to connect smaller pieces together. It works great and maintains a soft hand. Little pieces of batting at my house get cut up into 3 to 5 inch squares for my husband to clean his guns. It works great for that.

Every time I put leftover pieces of batting back in the closet, I pin a bit of paper on it, on the front of the remnant, with the approximate size. That way when I need a particular size I don't have to wade thru all of them. Cotton batting and 80/20 gets stored separately.

I piece my batting together when I have pieces big enough, but I store them in the bags you buy at WalMart that look like a canvas suitcase. You can vacuum all the air out also. Small pieces I cut up to use for cleaning my longarm. :

There's absolutely no space in my sewing room for batting so I keep 2 large removal type boxes in my attic. One is for cotton batting, the other for wool batting as these are the only types I use. Each piece of batting inside is in a plastic bag with the dimensions in inches and centimetres and a small diagram of its shape on a slip of paper in the bag. This same information is on a piece of paper on top of the box. If I use a piece I cross it out. That way I can see what I have at a glance and I don't need to unpack the whole box.

i float my tops=--and use up the pieces of batting so I don't have many little pieces here and there. Really small pieces go into a bin for 'stuffing' teddy bears. My frame is all metal and I use magnets to hold the top in place. I don't sew the batting pieces together as they seem to cling to each other and I cannot tell where one begins and another ends.

I don't see any batting in vacuum storage bags so I imagine this might ruin it but what if you just gently reduced it a bit to make it more manageable which is what I would like to do?
Karen, I put all small strips in one bin, the larger pieces I pin a slip of paper with the dimensions to the piece of batting so I don't need to unfold and measure again. I try to use up these for placemats, runners etc. the strips I use for bag handles, swiffer or dust with them. There is a fusible strip product I use to join batting pieces to get them used up, or triple zig zag them. Maybe someone has more ideas as these pieces do tend to multiply! Just an update, reorganized all my batting again and put all the sizes in a word document so I can refer to that rather than going through a huge stock of batting manually. This way I can tell at a glance whether or not I have a large enough piece. It’s in Pages on my phone so I can refer to when shopping as well.

With my odds and ends of batting, i use these for crib and child-sized, charity quilts. I begin by straightening the edges and matching the batting types. Since I only use "Warm and Natural" and "Warm and White", color is the only sorting criterion I have. I then butt join two straight edges with a wide zigzag stitch, adding strips until I have the size needed for these quilts, approximately 45" x 60". These pieces can be rolled and stacked, or folded onto a metal slacks hanger and hung in the closet until needed.

I have all my quilts quilted by long-arm quilters, and they always send all the batting scraps back with the finished job. I like wool, so these are springy, space-consuming scraps, some quite large -- and hard to throw away, as it seems so wasteful. But finding a space-saving way to store them is a problem. Any tips on storing batting 'remnants'?
