Love the definition of being a leftie! I'm a proud leftie, but it sure can be tricky in a world geared for righties. I eat, write, rotary cut, hand sew, and crochet with my left hand. I use a scissors with my right hand and knit right-handed. Have to adapt some patterns and cutting directions which is just a way of life for lefties. Righties just don't know how easy they have it until they can't use their right hand, and have to do some things with their left! It's funny to hear them complain. And then I say that's the way I ALWAYS do it

While I am left handed, I am right eyed. So I play most sports right handed -- except for tennis! But I have to eat and cut with scissors w/ my left hand. I can rotary cut with both hands - which frustrates some of my right handed friends because they can't do it. I always go by the saying - Lefties are the only people in their right minds!
I am left handed and got my start in quilting watching Alex on Simply Quilts. Ironically, while I do most things in life only with my left hand, I am actually ambidextrous when it comes to using a rotary cutter! Alex gave the best tip for learning from a righty: sit opposite (facing) them and mirror exactly what they do, this way what they do with their right hand you'll do with your left!

I learned from my mom who demonstrated right handed and I would translate it in my mind to left hand. At first it was difficult but over the years it has become a non-issue.
I am told years ago left handed was discouraged in schools and teachers taught children in first grade only right handed. I got that TEACHER! I did everything left handed in school but write. Cutting, hand sewing, ironing, eating is left handed. Physical sports were a disaster and I was often made fun of. It has been a challenge as I "get my left and right mixed up such as getting in the correct driving lane." It has been a challenge finding tools geared to left hand. Sometimes I can adapt; other projects are more frustrating. I like my left hand scissors as no one else will use them. I rotary cut with either hand but switching gloves is a pain. I now have a granddaughter. She is definitely left handed. I love her and love watching her do everything PERFECT.

I am not left handed, but I have a left handed husband and a left handed grandson and a left handed daughter-in-law . Teaching all these left handed people is a challenge, albeit an enjoyable one. I have learned to do most things left handed in order to teach them and have found my work is enriched and broadened from doing so! Hats off to the left handed who persist in a right handed world!!! My left handed husband is just now completing his 1st quilt top and is justly proud of it, as I am of him. He has about 5 more designed in his head, I might have trouble keeping up with him.

I was born ambidextrous, but preferred my left hand. On the first day of school, my teacher was aghast when she saw me take two pencils, one in each hand, and write my name alternating hands and pencils letter-by-lette r. She tried to tell me, "It simply is not done like that." Of course I insisted my way felt right. I spent the rest of that year with my left hand strapped behind my back. At the end of the year my teacher congratulated me for learning to use my right hand. I lamented that I had been using my "right" hand all the time until she came along.

I am left handed and agree with the description! I knit right handed (Mum taught me); I crochet left handed, and I guess I quilt left handed, but it only seems applicable when it comes to rotary cutting. Everything else seems to work just fine; I didn't think of there being right or left handed instructions. The old saying "Only left handed people are in their right minds" seems to apply here. I still use the left-handed sewing scissors my brothers gave to me when I learned to sew (decades ago!!)--take special care of them as they are one of only two pair I've found that work well; scissors are the worst part. Rotary cutters weren't a problem until 'ergo' arrived--forced us lefties out of the closet! 8-) but can be easily adapted.
I'm always excited to meet fellow left handers...we're a unique and fun group! I learned to crochet very young by sitting in front of my grandmother and copying her moves like I was looking in a mirror. I'd say 98 percent of the time right-handed directions give me no problem even in quilting. I think like most left handers I'm a very visual person, I usually learn much quicker if I can see someone doing a process rather than trying to read directions. When I was first learning to write as a small child the teachers tried to force me to use my right hand. Didn't work! And I'm SO glad...I love being left handed
