I really enjoyed reading all of the responses here. Wonderful stories about faithful fuzzy friends. I have always had cornish rex cats. They are very curious and naughty but they are obedient (for cats) At present, I have my beloved Miles, he loves the sound of the machine, and will sit on the sunny window bench behind me. Princess is 4 years old and she loves the ironing board. Both kitties know that pins are no no. Threads, yes, I do keep them under control and avoid those attractions. Merry Christmas sewing friends God Bless all of you

Some years ago my kitty got on my lap as I was hand quilting, inisting on being petted. I laid the hoop in my lap and petted her, and soon I felt a sharp prick in my thigh. I chided her for clawing me, and tried to go back to quilting but I could not find my needle. I looked all around me with no luck. As the week wore on my leg hurt more and I became convinced the needle was in my leg. My husband thought I was crazy. I finally went to the ER, and they were doubtful, but took an x-ray. There was my lost needle! The doctor removed it and gave me the needle in a specimen cup as a keepsake. The kitty did not help with the bill!

My 4 year old English Cream Golden Retriever faithfully sits/sleeps/wat ches me from the doorway of my sewing room. Although he cannot tell time, he possesses an innate sense of 90 minute timeframes. Once his internal clock hits 90 he sits up and gives me a whine (not the wine I'd prefer) and out we go for his mile walkies. He is good for about two reps and then he demands my full attention.

Sammy the miniature Schnauzer is my sewing companion. I like cats too but don't have one. I'm concerned about cats in the sewing room due to a tragic episode that happened with my sister's cat. Scooter loved to play with cords and threads. He once chewed off and swallowed a piece of cord off a toy. It became wound through his intestines and required major surgery to remove. He recovered from that but sometime later, he swallowed a thread that had a needle on the end of it. By the time my sister realized something was wrong with Scooter, the needle had perforated his intestines and caused a major infection. He had to be euthanized. I'm sorry to post such a downer message but I think about that often when I see cats in sewing rooms. Please be cautious if your kitty friends visit and discourage playing with threads.

My furbaby dog, Roscoe, has been gone for about a month now, and I really miss him. He was always in my sewing room with me, patiently changing position when I moved from sewing machine to computer or ironing board. Sometimes I imagine I see him out of the corner of my eye. RIP Roscoe!

I have 2 cats that accompany me in the sewing room. Simba is a 15 pound orange tabby who wanders around my small sewing room. Then there is Gracie. She is our 4-month-old kitten who has to be in my sewing room with me most of the time. She sleeps on the countertop behind my machine, looks out the window and of course sleeps.

I let my cats come in the sewing room, but with so many things in there that would hurt them...(thread on the machine a temptation) I banned them. They now have to sleep on my bed with the electric blanket on! (poor, poor kitties) My pooch Sadie is always at my side.

Buddy Buster and Beau are my three cat companions. They act like ballast when I free motion quilt which turns it into no motion quilting. But If I throw cat snacks on the floor they get off my work and allow me to quilt once again.

I used to have my big dogs, but neither of them liked to come upstairs, so they didn't come into the sewing room. I would have allowed them, but it would have been a tight fit. They have passed on, I have no others, but I have photos of the people who encouraged me to sew instead. They keep me company.
