Thank you for this information. My Grandmother was from Belgium and tied beautiful tatting. My wedding veil was Belgian lace. I have several pieces that were handmade and some old, very fine machine made. I plan to do several projects with them so they will be used and enjoyed.

Great story and I very much appreciated your research. Thank you for sharing the information and the photographs. Cindy Needham’s book had a profound influence on me. It introduced me to the most delicate quilting with fine (Superior) thread and forever changed my quilting journey. I admire her work so much. You are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to take her class. I would love to have the opportunity to meet her and take a class from her. Thanks for a most interesting read this morning,

A lovely article. However I believe Queen Victotia's wedding veil was Honiton Lace, made in Honiton Devon.

Lilo thanks for all that information - I have wanted to take a class with Cindy for a long time. Last year when my mother-in-law passed away, we were going through her hope chest, and there were many many hand made pieces my sisters-in-law had never seen used. My mother-in-law was the only girl, so her brothers, although living - really don't know much about them. My mother-in-law was second generation Irish from County Cork, and I am sure some of these came from her grandmother - thing like Christening gowns and table cloths. thanks again for sharing this - as I am the only quilter/sewist in the the extended family, I hope I can turn these unused pieces of lace into something for my children and my nieces and nephews to keep their Irish heritage alive.
