My friend had already bound her queen quilt and a few years later she wanted to give it to her DIL for her king size bed. I had her cut her border, backing and batting pieces. We placed the top border on top of the quilt rst and the backing and batting on the bottom. The batting should be on the bottom next to the bobbin area. The quilt border should be rst facing the back of the quilt. Then just sew them on. We used a serger. We put the quilt back on the frame and quilted the outside border. Easy, easy. Glad you posted. So many have asked me about doing this. Your method is a bit different but it works!

Sam, the stitch is called the serpentine or lycra stitch. it looks like the "curvy road" sign as it stitches rather than a zigzag. Hope that helps. Thanks Sharon for that great tip!

This is perfect timing for a project that is was asked to do. I was given a tapestry, with the request to put a border on it and create a "framed" wall hanging. My first thought was to quilt what would be tyhe finished size and then cut out the middle to accommodate the small tapestry. This is so much easier. Thank you, Sharon!
